Sermon Notes September 30, 2012

Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? Matthew 13:55,56

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13,14

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Revelation 12:11

  1. The enemy will always use your past to make you think you are not good enough for your future.
  2. The enemy will use those closest to you to bring up your past. Friends and family.
  3. Always think on the vision and plan God gave you for the future, not on what happened in the past.
  4. You must embrace change and the newness you have in Christ.
  5. You can not walk in new life living your old life.
  6. Change your ways (repent) and do not apologize for who you have become.
  7. You owe nothing to anyone in your past but to love them. Romans 13:8
  8. The only reason to bring up the past is as a testimony to bring people into the body of Christ and to show how the power of Jesus Christ changed your life.
  9. Do not dwell in the past.

I pray this teaching will bless you. I pray that if your past is a problem that you meditate in these scriptures. Your past does not determine your future and it does not matter what the world says, it matters what God says. Do not be deceived by what you were, be encouraged by what God intends for you to be.

I love you, God bless You!

4R's Press Release

4R's is birthed out of a single question Apostle Powell presented to God: why are Christians not being healed, delivered, and set free from sin, and other forms of affliction? Through his experience, as a street pastor in a ministry that served the poor and homeless , Apostle Powell found that the supernatural manifestation of God is absent from most churches. Through prayer, fasting, and experience, God answered his question through revelation. 4R's will bless all that read it, whether they be a non-Christian, new Christian, or an experienced Christian. The 4R's Revival, Repentance, Relationship and Restoration are principles that can and will improve your life. The 4R's are beneficial in all aspects of life. The 4R's is based on the Holy Bible and principles of the Kingdom of Heaven.

With the gifts and power that God has given us in the church, there is no reason that we should be in lack or want. Effective ministry should change people and circumstances. We should not keep going through the same church as usual and coming up with less than kingdom like results. God is a supernatural God full of miracles signs and wonders and those miracles signs and wonders should manifest in our lives.

Apostle Powell is a firm believer in the Grace of Jesus Christ as the foundation of our beliefs as Christians. "we are all sinners saved by grace, that is the gospel." Apostle Powell was called into the ministry in 1994 after a supernatural encounter with God. "I knew it was God speaking, I still didn't know what to do, so I ran from my calling. It took me years to finally accept the fact that God would use a wretched sinner like me to serve Him."

Apostle Powell is originally from Detroit, Michigan and has been in ministry since 1995. He is the Executive Director of United Urban Ministries, Inc. A 501c3 non-profit that facilitates services for the homeless. He is pastor of Judson Powell Ministries a non-denominational ministry teaching salvation, deliverance and healing through the Holy Ghost and the grace of Jesus Christ. He is a graduate of Hampton University and the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law. He is currently a candidate for a doctorate in ministry. Apostle Powell, worked as a gospel radio announcer and program director for 6 years after a 21 year career in secular radio and television. "I listened to gospel music and ministry programs 10 to 14 hours a day. It is difficult to hear the gospel that much and not have it touch your soul."

Apostle Judson Powell is available for evangelism for your congregation or church conference.

Sermon Notes September 23, 2012: Treat People Right

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29

Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.” 1 Timothy 5:1,2

Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labor in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treads out the corn. And, The laborer is worthy of his reward.” 1 Timothy 5:17,18

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22,23

  1. We have allowed kindness, meekness and love to leave our society.
  2. Reality TV is not reality.
  3. Watch your mouth and speak life to others, it will bring life to you.
  4. Do on to others as you would have them do unto you.
  5. Treat people in leadership and elders with respect.
  6. Be race, creed and color blind, see people as God's children.
  7. See people as either in Christ or not, and even if they are not treat them with love and respect.
  8. Display the fruit of the spirit at all times. It should be your way of life.
  9. Walk in LOVE.

I pray this will bless you and edify your life in some way. I pray grace and the manifest blessings of our Lord upon you in Jesus name. Amen

Obama Wins? Writing on the Wall!

The presidential election is almost over. The only thing that remains is for everyone to go to the polls and vote for Barack Obama. Mitt Romney has managed to place his foot in his mouth again. I really do not think he gets it. Saying that you are a rich kid, born with a silver spoon in your mouth and that half of the country feels entitled to and is dependent government programs. Then to say that if he would have been born in Mexico he would win the election. Then to say all of this in front of a room full of rich folks in private and get caught doing it and having the nerve to stand by what he said. Like my baby daughter would say; oh my God!

Mr. Romney, this is the information and technology age. People have phones and cameras every where. It is rare that you can say or do anything and not be overheard or video taped. This is like a thief that robs the corner store on video tape. Weren't you smart enough to know somebody would see you and turn you in? Wisdom is known of her children, and that was not wise. Mitt, can I call you Mitt? Wants to run the entire country and be the leader of the free world but you keep making big mistakes. Let's see you insult the host country of the Olympics, you make remarks insulting Muslim countries, you flip flop on your health care plan, and now this. Even a fool that keeps his mouth shut is considered wise.

I do not even like politics, but this latest debacle is utterly ridiculous. How is it possible that you would insult the very people you want to lead? Where is your compassion and love for the people? At the end of the day running for political office is a popularity contest. Talking about the people you want to elect you is not very smart. Mr. Romney is not even popular among his own party. During the Republican convention the last two Republican presidents and vice-presidents didn't even show up to their own convention. The old saying goes, “you look conspicuous by your absence.” The convention looked like an old boys club meeting with rich folks holding million dollar parties on yachts, while the rest of the country is struggling trying to find its next meal or tank of gas. It is clear that everybody is not struggling.

Stop with the I pulled myself up by the bootstraps lies, when you never struggled a day in your life. You are trying to portray yourself as one of the common folk, but you are far from that reality. You have no empathy for the people. You refuse to release your tax returns and documentation from your past does not add up. What else are you trying to hide? If you are lying about all of that, then what else will you lie to the American people about? Just be honest, and say I'm a rich kid and want to be president and help rich folk get richer. You parade your wife in front of the country in a red dress to say “I love you women” but want to take women back to the dark ages where they have no rights at all. Your healthcare proposal will also take seniors and others back to having little or no health care and really will not stop the breach in spending on healthcare. So who are you for? Are the American people the 2 percent that are rich or the 98 percent that are not. Who will you fight for and represent?

The rich folks sold the country out and now want to blame the poor and middle class. The very people that Romney put down are in that situation because corporate CEO's, like him, outsourced our jobs and moved their businesses out of the country. Now they want to run on a platform of jobs and fixing the broken economy which they broke in the first place. Then, they want to do it with the same trickle down economic theory that has never worked in the past. If it failed in the past, it is a good chance it will fail in the future. It is all a lie to say the people are dependent on entitlements when most of the welfare in this country has been given to the RICH. All of the trillions of dollars of bailout money went to corporations, not the poor and middle class. It went to banks and car companies and big industry. Even the food stamp program is to profit the rich. When people on food stamps go to the store and buy food, the money goes right back into the hands of the corporations.

The Republicans want Latino votes but do not want Latinos in the country. In fact, they do not want anyone who is not affluent to enter the country and have the opportunity for the American dream. The proof is all of the Republican sponsored immigration laws meant to keep Latino people out. They parade a handful of Latino folks in front of us, so that we will believe that they are inclusive of everyone, which is simple not true. They do the same for the African-American vote. The African-Americans that represent the Republican party tend to be more well off than most. “Are their Blacks better than other Blacks?” The democratic convention actually looked like the United States of America. People of all races, creeds and colors. Wasn't that the vision of the founding fathers of this country? Isn't the United States supposed to be a melting pot where all can come together in freedom and liberty and pursue the American Dream?

Mr. Romney the People are hurting, but you want them to make more bricks with no straw. We have already been delivered from that, no need to go back. Mr. Romney if you want to be president you have to be the president for all the people, of all the people, and by all the people, not just the rich, wealthy, and well off. How can you actually lead and serve people that you despise? True leadership begins with love and compassion for people.

Sermon Notes: September 16, 2012

Sermon Notes: September 16, 2012, The Blessing.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

119:1-3 “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.”

Revelation 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

  1. The blessing has always existed since the creation of man and it will be upon us even in heaven.
  2. You are blessed, NOT cursed, Jesus took all curses for us it is part of the finished work of the cross. Galatians 3:13
  3. When the curse came, God cursed the ground NOT the man. God never cursed us it is a lie and deception of the enemy. Genesis 3:17
  4. We can actually bless God by living within his will.
  5. We are NEVER waiting on a blessing, we are already blessed.
  6. When you are waiting on the LORD, you are waiting for his GLORY to manifest through the blessing.
  7. The blessing is all of the spiritual gifts, physical gifts, ability, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that God has given you to enable you to function at and in every level of life.
  8. The blessing also includes other people, the Holy Spirit and angels sent into your life to help you in every situation.
  9. The blessing is a gift from God You are BLESSED

I hope and pray that this will Bless you. All Praise, honor and glory be to Jesus Christ our Lord and may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Apostle Judson Powell.

The Roman Road

From the Holy Bible book of Romans

Consider the following Bible truths: It takes being righteous for a person to go to heaven. In fact, the promises of God in the bible are only for the RIGHTEOUS. Heaven is only for the Righteous. Being righteous is being without sin, and not in disobedience to God. Have you lived your whole life without sin and disobedience? So ask yourself are you righteous? You should have answered “NO” to that question. The Bible says
.
Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none Righteous, no not one”

You may ask, “if there are none righteous then where does that leave me? Surely we are not all Sinners are we?” Well, the Bible would point you to the answer to that question and it is YES! Your Apostle, Deacon, Priest, Bishop, Pastor, Prophet, mother, Father and everyone else has sinned.

Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore by one man ( Adam ) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

So, if we are “ALL” sinners, then how do we become righteous?

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 5:8 “But God Commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

The way we become RIGHTEOUS and able to enter into eternal life is through Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:9,10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Many people make this decision much harder than it needs to be. God’s Word teaches us that if you simply and sincerely believe in your innermost being that Jesus took your place and died on the cross for the payment of your sins, and that God raised him from the dead on the third day (found in Matthew 28: 1 to 20) you will be saved by your confession of being a sinner and asking the Lord Jesus to forgive you of your sins.

Because we are not righteous on our own, the only way to heaven is to ask God to forgive you of your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. The way to do that is by believing in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

If you call upon Him for salvation God promises to hear you and you will be saved!! If you believe that you need Christ in your life I encourage you to go to God in prayer and sincerely pray a prayer like the one below and mean it in your heart:

PRAYER of Salvation and Repentance

Heavenly Father I come to you in prayer asking for the forgiveness of my sins. I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that Jesus is your perfect Son who had no sin, And that he died on the Cross at Calvary that I might be forgiven and have eternal Life in the Kingdom of Heaven. Father, I believe that Jesus rose from the dead and I ask you right now to come in to my life and be my personal Lord and Savior. I repent of my Sins and will seek to Worship you all the day's of my Life!. Because your word is truth, I claim its promise of eternal life and confess with my mouth that I am Born Again and Cleansed by the Blood of Jesus! In Jesus’ Name, Amen

If you have prayed this prayer and truly meant it in your heart , God’s Word assures you that you now have eternal life. See John 6:37 and John 10:27-29.

Please contact us about your decision and if you have any questions so we can send you some valuable information that will assist you in your new life in Christ.

From the book 4R's by Apostle Judson Powell: Revival, Repentance, Relationship, Restoration.

4R's Book

The main question I placed before God was; why were people hearing the gospel and attending church and not being totally delivered, healed, and set free? Why are we as Christians losing the battle between the spirit and the flesh? I prayed and meditated on these questions every day. I ran an out reach ministry for the homeless and indigent. All of the sudden I was homeless and indigent myself. I was living in my van. The difference was that I knew that I wouldn’t stay homeless and indigent. I knew that somehow God was working a plan in my life. I just kept doing the work of the Lord. I would see people and minister to people that professed they knew the Lord. They could quote more bible scripture than I could, but the enemy still had them bound and enslaved to the flesh and in sin. Many of them came to church and attended service, but as soon as they left the service, they were back to being carnal minded, in addiction, abuse and other worse sin. I just kept asking God why? Why were these people not being totally healed, delivered and set free?

As I was riding in my van one day the spirit of God spoke to me. These four R’s were revealed to me as the answer to my prayer. I pulled the van over, wrote them down on a piece of paper, and put them in my pocket. Once they were in my pocket, I actually forgot about them.  That was on a Wednesday night. The next night, I went to a healing and deliverance meeting at a ministry that I usually went to on Thursday night. I attended those meetings because I coveted the gift to have God use me as a healer for the Kingdom. When I got there, a retired pastor friend of mine comes up to me, pulls me aside, and says he has something that God told him to tell me. To my surprise and to my joy, he told me the same four R’s that God had given to me while I was riding down the street. I then pulled the piece of paper out of my pocket and showed the paper to my friend. We just laughed and praised God because of his goodness and how he had confirmed his revelation. Revival, Repentance, Relationship, and Restoration was born as the vision God gave me for my ministry

New Football Season

Football is back and it is bigger and better than ever. Much to the she-grin of wives and pastors. Many wives are now football widows and will not have much time with their husbands as they will be watching every game. My oldest son and I were talking about the schedule of football games and you can watch football every single night of the week. With the right cable or satellite programming combined with internet you can see every NFL, college and now even high school games. That presents a problem for many families especially where there is no synergy around football. This also presents a problem for pastors as well.

The men are gone from the home and the church. The most popular sport in the United States is played on Sunday and most games have a 1pm start time, making is very difficult for people that attend the games to attend church services. Some pastors have even gone to placing televisions in the fellowship hall and having men's ministry and fellowship after services so that they can attract more men during football season. Wives equally have a hard time getting attention from their husbands and the need for pastoral counseling increases during football season. These football wives are upset because their husbands do not spend enough time with them. It is not grounds for divorce but it is grounds for concern.

I have some suggestions. First, place God first. Attend church and record the first part of the early game. Do not make football a god before GOD. Second, if your wife is not a football fan, make some special time for her where you do exclusively what she wants to do. Make a big deal out of it, just like you do with the game. Next, try to pick a limited amount of games to watch and limit that to your dosage per week. Too much of anything is bad for you. Next, if there is a big game like playoffs etc... tell your wife in advance so that she is aware of what is going on and she can make other plans. Please note: all games are not big games. Finally, be considerate even when the games are on. There are other things going on in your household especially if you have children. Those suggestions should make life a lot easier during football season and may keep you out of the pastors office.

I know that football is a huge part of our culture, but it is not bigger than God or family. If you have gotten to that point, then you are way out of line and you need to reel yourself back in. I am a fan of the game, and in my younger years I played the game. I understand the excitement and anticipation associated with big games and big rivalries. I am from Detroit, Michigan and have been a Detroit Lions fan and University of Michigan fan all my life. I am not insensitive to football fans. However, we should always have balance and priorities in life. When anything takes God and family out of balance and creates other priorities, then it is going to cause us problems, whatever it may be. So remember football is just a game, but God and family is real life. Go Lions!

Sermon Notes: September 9, 2012. " The Process of Repentance"

Matthew 21:28-32 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

1. All people will not receive the gospel.

2. Friends and family will not receive the gospel.

3. Continue to preach the gospel in spite of what others say.

4. You may be surprised who will repent and receive the gospel.

5. Repentance is a process for many do not judge.

6. It is up to the Holy Ghost to convict hearts into repentance.

7. Stay steadfast in LOVE.

I pray this blesses you. Amen.

Presidential Election 2012, WWJD ?

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turns it wheresoever he will. Proverbs 21:1. As election day approaches the race for President is very interesting. As a Christian, I do not know if you can be completely happy with either side. What would Jesus do? The Republicans seem hell bent on trying to prove they were poor once upon a time and have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. The Democrats on the other hand have dived into uncharted water with forcing employers to provide birth-control. Either way there are many issues that are anti-Christian. It seems like we as Christians are left with picking the lesser of two evils when and if we decide to vote.

The cutting of social programs which the Republicans seem to want to always do is really against the bible and the church. Acts 2:44,45 “And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.” Sounds like the early church was really a socialist endeavor. Everybody put in and everybody got out what they needed. Any time a doctrine like health care, welfare, or any other social program is brought up conservative Christian Republicans are against it. I still always try to figure out their thought process in believing that their trickle down economic policy is really Christ-like. The oppression of the poor is not Christ-like.

The democrats are very liberal when it comes to human rights issues like same-sex marriage, abortion and birth control. They are mostly pro-choice, pro woman's right to decide. Their views may be humanly justifiable in some way, but are not biblical. All the Democrats views on human rights issues are somehow anchored in sin or disobedience to the word of God. They are mired in sin but espouse the doctrine of free will. Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” God does give us free will but does that mean that we fall deeper into disobedience? We have grace but does that mean we can sin more?

According to the principles of the bible, both sides have problems with their walk with the Lord. I understand that this is not religion or spiritually, it is politics. Politics in a democracy means that it is really a popularity contest and the side that is most popular will win. That actually bodes better for the Democrats because if you want to make friends it is better to give than to take away. While in Law School I learned that it is better to er on the side of giving people rights than to take peoples rights away. So as Christians we really have to turn this into a spiritual decision and pray about who we should vote for. The Lord holds the heart of the King in his hands. If Jesus holds your heart then He can tell you in prayer which side to vote for.

Finally, realize that you as a Christian are a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven and this place is not your home. Our sojourn here is only temporary and Jesus is our King. We are in this world but not of this world. Isaiah 9:6,7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” Pray for the United States of America.
