Presidential Election 2012, WWJD ?

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turns it wheresoever he will. Proverbs 21:1. As election day approaches the race for President is very interesting. As a Christian, I do not know if you can be completely happy with either side. What would Jesus do? The Republicans seem hell bent on trying to prove they were poor once upon a time and have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps. The Democrats on the other hand have dived into uncharted water with forcing employers to provide birth-control. Either way there are many issues that are anti-Christian. It seems like we as Christians are left with picking the lesser of two evils when and if we decide to vote.

The cutting of social programs which the Republicans seem to want to always do is really against the bible and the church. Acts 2:44,45 “And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.” Sounds like the early church was really a socialist endeavor. Everybody put in and everybody got out what they needed. Any time a doctrine like health care, welfare, or any other social program is brought up conservative Christian Republicans are against it. I still always try to figure out their thought process in believing that their trickle down economic policy is really Christ-like. The oppression of the poor is not Christ-like.

The democrats are very liberal when it comes to human rights issues like same-sex marriage, abortion and birth control. They are mostly pro-choice, pro woman's right to decide. Their views may be humanly justifiable in some way, but are not biblical. All the Democrats views on human rights issues are somehow anchored in sin or disobedience to the word of God. They are mired in sin but espouse the doctrine of free will. Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” God does give us free will but does that mean that we fall deeper into disobedience? We have grace but does that mean we can sin more?

According to the principles of the bible, both sides have problems with their walk with the Lord. I understand that this is not religion or spiritually, it is politics. Politics in a democracy means that it is really a popularity contest and the side that is most popular will win. That actually bodes better for the Democrats because if you want to make friends it is better to give than to take away. While in Law School I learned that it is better to er on the side of giving people rights than to take peoples rights away. So as Christians we really have to turn this into a spiritual decision and pray about who we should vote for. The Lord holds the heart of the King in his hands. If Jesus holds your heart then He can tell you in prayer which side to vote for.

Finally, realize that you as a Christian are a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven and this place is not your home. Our sojourn here is only temporary and Jesus is our King. We are in this world but not of this world. Isaiah 9:6,7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” Pray for the United States of America.
